The official tally of 90+ days for DCA stands at 50 days as of today. Congratulations! I do not think we will tie the first place record of 67 90+ days set three decades ago, but we could still make a run for second place should we reach over 59 days of 90+ high temperatures. Another week of high heat and humidity is on tap with gradual cooling near the end of the week. This week would mark the start of the sixth heat wave for the local DC metro area for the summer. Temperatures will be on the rise after Saturday and especially after Monday, where we could reach the upper 90s. On Tuesday, near record highs are possible as the mercury inches close to the century mark. It will feel quite humid on Tuesday and heat indices could near or exceed 100 degrees. There will be slightly less hot temperatures on Wednesday with more cloud cover and more of a northerly wind. Temperatures on Wednesday should reach the upper 90′s with a very small chance of precipitation (20%). Thursday will feature yet another step down in temperatures near 90, but a greater chance of precipitation (40%) as a weak front swings near the area from the northeast. This front will stall out just down to our south on Friday and that should help keep the temperatures below 90 degrees with a 30% (slight) chance of precipitation. It will not get less humid behind this front, however. Next weekend looks to feature a upward trend in temperatures with chances of thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday. That’s all for now, see you soon for another update. Enjoy the heat! Here is the graphical forecast for this week.
