On Saturday, in his weekly address, President Obama introduced his plan to overhaul No Child Left Behind. Obama introduced the plan as ”the best chance [for American students] to succeed in a changing world.”
What the key players say:
Obama: “[T]he nation that out-educates us today will out-compete us tomorrow.”
Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, said that No Child Left Behind, signed into law by President George W Bush in 2002, had resulted in lower standards.
Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, said, “This blueprint places 100% of the responsibility on teachers and gives them zero percent authority.”
