We had a pretty nice break from snow and cold this week as temperatures bounced back to near normal with this week’s high temperatures averaging in the low 40′s. High pressure has been a main reason why this week was dry and pleasant compared to last week. The temperatures were returning back to normal this week due to a relaxation of the persistent cold flow of the past several weeks that led to well below normal temperatures for our area. The stretch of sunny and dry days will come to an end today. I know, sad. As high pressure saunters out to sea, we will have an area of low pressure pass to our northwest, this will allow for mostly rain tomorrow and Tuesday, if not all rain. There shouldn’t be widespread flooding problems as only a tenth inch of rain is expected for the storm. High temperatures will only reach the mid-40s for tomorrow at best. This will allow for gradual melting of the snow pack and not abrupt melting. The development of the coastal storm early this week as the primary storm dies out over the Great Lakes region will be crucial in determining if we get a major snowstorm later this week around Thursday or not. Stay tuned. See figure below for an illustration of this storm.
