Juliena chapter5

This entry is part 5 of 4 in the series Juliena

Julia arrived home that evening tired and hungry. Leaving all thoughts of homework behind, she eagerly sat at the dinner table. Things seemed right for a moment as she put the meatloaf in her mouth.

The soft breeze blew as the little girl sat on the edge of the cliff. The clouds hovered over keeping their stance. Below the sharp edge of the cliff, the rocky ocean swayed Back and forth as they slammed against earth. The sun setting in the distance, the lively orange surrounded by the sleepy yellow, the bold red spread through as the violet halted the advance. The breeze blew once more as if signaling the last few hours, the last few moments…

The clock ticked and tocked as forks clashed against plates. The stereo in the back softly played the old jazz, knowing loud would take away the significance of this moment: This peace, quiet, comfort, and understanding that conducted itself through the family.

The girl looked at the sunset savoring this sweet moment. Her legs swayed back and forth in the rhythm of the ocean. Her hair danced on her face in perfect rhythm to the girl’s surroundings. The girl smiled as she watched a bird fly by…

Julia smiles as she looks over her family. She liked this, her fears pushed aside. Her mother studied her before asking “what’s putting you in such a good mood?”

Julia smiled. “Nothing. I’m just happy that’s all”

The stereo switched to a French song. The song was soft, soothing, and playful.

“Julie!”

The girl ignores the calls and focuses on her surroundings. A song seemed to play as everything seemed so in sync.

“Julie! There you are!”

The girl looked up at her mother. The woman had a lovely face. The girl looked at the reflection of her brown eyes. She walked into her mother’s arms and embraces her mother as she gets carried to the car.

The stereo stopped and switched Cd’s. Alarm spread through Julia as the illusion stopped. The comfort was no more. Something was off…..

The girl watched the distance grow as she became farther apart from the cliff. The sun seemed to slowly sink as the distance grew farther, and farther apart.

Julia chewed slower as a tingle went down her spine. The quiet switched as the feeling changed. The quiet became suffocating.

The girl watched the car door close. She looked out the window as the engine revved. The car drove slowly first, then slowly increased  speed. She watched the coastline speed up. Plants zoomed by as the distance grew farther and farther from that spot.

Julia looked over her family slowly.

The girl watched in dismay as she watched the cliff far off in the distance. The sun sunk lower and lower.

She looked her parents over searching… something wasn’t right….

The girl placed her hands on the window, as if it would bring her closer to that cliff…

Julia slowly took a breath as she found nothing out of place. She once again put the meatloaf in her mouth and slowly chewed. She swallowed and almost felt sick.

The realization hit her. A bolt of shock spread through her body. She looked at her parents over once more.

The girl slowly smiled as she could almost feel that breeze…

There was no wedding ring.
