Final call: Dusting-3″ of snow for the area with rain mixing in at times. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for 1-3″ of snow until 3 AM Tuesday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect because of the inconvenience the snow will cause during the rush hour. Snow should taper off by 7 PM and skies should clear out later.
That’s right! How snow can you go? What a relief today is compared to yesterday. We finally have that yellow glowing object in the sky, called the sun. This reprieve from snow will be fairly short-lived again as high pressure builds into our area for today through Sunday. This area of high pressure will slide off to sea by Monday in wake of the next storm system. The next storm system will not pack quite a punch as the past two, as it is relatively moisture-starved and does not seem to have much of an interaction with Gulf moisture. This storm is what meteorologists call a “clipper” system as it is relatively fast moving and originates from Canada. The track of the clipper will determine how much snow the area gets, if the clipper passes farther to the north as models indicate, then the area is likely to see less accumulating snows, light snow will be common across the area. I am keeping an eye out for the track of the clipper as that will determine how much snow will accumulate. Stay tuned. See figure below for an early look at the areas likely to be impacted by this system.
