MLK weekend storm is a rainstorm.

Sunday Forecast:

High temperature: 42 F
Low temperature: 34 F

Chance of rain: 100%
Rainfall amounts 1-2″

On January 17th of 1904 the total rainfall was 1.09″, a record amount for a 24 hour period. There is a chance we may break or tie that record this weekend with the amounts of rain we could be seeing.

Unfortunately for snow lovers this weekend’s storm looks to be a very big and wet storm, not white. We are possibly looking at the likelihood of a heavy, cold rain. Rainfall amounts could exceed half an inch, for now this is an educated guess. Watch out for possible flooding. As you can see in the figure below, I am predicting a likely chance of our area seeing heavy rain. What needs to be determined are the rainfall amounts and intensity. I am pretty certain that it is too warm for snow or ice with this storm with the cold air fading away. I am expecting a high temperature near or above 40 F. Our next chance of snow may not be until late January based on long range models. Hints are that the warm up we are experiencing now will be short lived and a return to the cold pattern is possible. Stay tuned for further updates.
