Left 4 dead 2 Review

This entry is part 3 of 5 in the series video games

         By: Chad Law

Zombies! Zombies everywhere!! This is just one of the many quotes you will be screaming during this infectious game. After playing Left4dead 2 compared to its prequel Lef4dead I personally say that Valve has done right. Many people who played Left4dead will be able to manage the game really well, yet those who are new to the series may be a bit astonished. Left4dead 2 takes place in New Orleans in a zombie apocalyptic world. You play as one of four survivors who are immune to the same virus that is infecting everyone else around you.

Each Campaign is made out of checkpoints that are referred to as safe rooms that all living survivors will have to enter to survivor the consistent zombie swarms. The old Cast of Left4dead has been replaced by newer and better rendered locals of New Orleans. Coach, a high school football coach, Rochelle, local news reported, Ellis, a mechanic and Nick, a gambler and conman are your four choices of survivors. Those who are more used to the old characters of Left4dead because of its unique dialogue should not fear because the funny one liners are even funnier. An improvement to the series is how each campaign is more diverse and interesting in its own personal way. One Campaign even includes a Carnival with its own uncommon common infected that look like clowns that alert hordes of zombies to chase after the survivors if they get to close. There is also a Swamp campaign that includes mud men type zombies that cover you screen with mud if you are to too close and hazmat zombies that are immune to fire and incendiary bullets. The levels have higher replay ability and will have you set for hours playing the same level trying to find our new secrets and weapon spots to fend off the living dead.

I would also like to say how great the weapons and items are. I mean who hasn’t dreamed of cutting through crowds of zombies with a chainsaw? With more guns involved in Left4dead 2 compared to the original which only had 5 different weapon types there is more of a choice and you will need to be more observant on your situation to know what weapon to use. Melee weapons are a big improvement to Left4dead 2 for they allow the player to clear hordes much faster. My personal favorite melee weapon is the chainsaw because it slices zombies in half leaving a nice pool of blood.

The gore has been massively improved, for instance when I shot a zombie directly in the head half of his face was missing and he was still charging at me. Or how about dismembering every zombie in site?

Now the very anticipated versus mode which consists of teams of 4 survivors versus 4 special infected zombies with different objectives of each campaign. Basically if you are a survivor you mission is to make it to the safe room and advance to the next level yet if you are a special infected you are trying to kill all survivors. Both teams require team work for if you are to act like Rambo and go made with the shotgun and run ahead of the group you are basically considered dead. In the original left4dead I found it very annoying when I played as a hunter based special infected and would always die, then having to wait a 30 second respawn. Yet with the 3 new special infected I feel that the survivor and infected teams are more balanced. The spitter is able to as her name tells spits acid onto the floor doing massive damage to survivors that step onto it.

The charger which rams into survivors carrying them off and smashing into the ground. Then my favorite, the jockey, a little special infected midget that hopes onto the backs of survivors and rides them away from the group. When these special infected work together it can devastate an entire team. There also new modes like scavenger that requires players to collect gas tanks to fill a generator while avoiding special infected and realism mode that ups the difficulty of the game to the max.

If you did not like the first Left4dead, Left4dead 2 will most likely not change your mind into enjoying this new game yet for all the original fans this game is highly necessary to have in your collection. Considering it’s not just a fresh paint of coat for left4dead, its offers something new to the gaming world. For those who have never played left4dead this is a must buy.

Verdict
+ High replay value in levels

+Fun new weapons and items

+ More diverse game modes

+ It’s a blast to play as a special infected zombie
